Week 9 - October 16-20
We are in full swing in Kindergarten! Everyone is working hard and I am so proud of the excitement for learning that I am seeing each day! I am looking forward to meeting with you all soon to share our progress.
-Early Release Days are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week due to Parent Conferences. Dismissal is 11:45, but in order to beat the "big kid stampede" we will head out around 11:40. Lunch will NOT be served on these days, so you may want to pack a heartier snack to be eaten in class.
Monday, October 23 - Lifetouch retakes for anyone interested. You can send in the entire picture package that came home earlier if you would like your child to take a retake.
Calling all Room 110 artists!! STEAM Day (formerly known as Science Day) logo contest entries are due next week. Happy creating!
Here's a quick peek at our week.....
In Language Arts:
-Handwriting – Aa, Nn and Mm
-high frequency words: have, is
-story elements: main character, setting, predicting and retelling using connecting words (first, then, after that, next, finally, etc)
-writing in our journals
-listening to reading (Halloween QR code stories on iPads)
-sound blending with short a (-at, -ap families)
-identifying beginning sounds in words
-finishing all quarter 1 assessments
-BOOK BAGS! – In addition to the Reading Street reader “Sock Sack,” Your child shopped for 3 books today and brought them home in a ziplock bag. For a while, they will “shop” on Mondays and Wednesdays, but please have them bring the bag back to school each day. Each night, please listen to your child read and initial or sign the assignment sheet in the appropriate box. Do not spend more than 10 minutes on the reading assignment (unless of course your child wants to and you have the time). The books your child will be bringing home are to help build reading strategies, comprehension and fluency. It is OKAY if your child memorizes the book; however, please have him/her point to the words as he/she is reading. Please help your child remember to keep track of all 3 books and put them back into the book bag each night after reading so we will have them here for reading/strategy groups. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Have fun and happy reading!!
