Week 5 - September 18-22
Wow! Where does the time go? We are beginning our 5th week of school and are already more than halfway through the first quarter! The kids are doing well and have adjusted so well to our kindergarten routines! We have such a sweet, bright group! I have almost completed individual letter naming/letter sound assessments and am hoping to also complete individual reading assessments in the next couple of weeks.
Weekly Reading Assignments – Thank you all so much for helping your child remember to bring his or her reading assignment log back each day! Beginning next week, your child will also bring home a “real” book in addition to the small foldable one. You will notice that the book your child brings home might be too easy, too hard or it might be just right. Again, I have not done any formal evaluation or assessment yet…we will start by just getting into a routine of taking books home, practicing reading to someone and bringing them back the next day. If the book is too hard, just read it to them or with them – NO STRESS!! Enjoy your reader or emerging reader and encourage and praise their efforts. Please help them to remember to bring back the book the next day. This is going to be very helpful with responsibility and the care of our books. THANKS!
We are getting our ipads on Wednesday! Woohoo! Each student will need a set of headphones to use with his/her ipad. Please send a set of headphones for your child to keep at school. It is also helpful if they practice using them at home before bringing them to school. We will use headphones almost daily, especially during FIT time. They will be returned at the end of the year. Thank you!
Thank you to those of you that have sent in treasures for our treasure box. Please continue to think of us if you are cleaning out toy boxes or browsing the Dollar Spot at Target - we will gladly accept any donations! Plastic rings, bracelets, stickers, cars, key chains and tiny animals are always big hits! Thank you so much!
